Thanksgiving Basket Project
Mid Island Rotary is proud to be involved in the Staten Island Thanksgiving Basket Project. The club entered this long-standing tradition in 1990. Through year-round fundraising we can contribute to the $40,000 budget needed to achieve and grow this endeavor which feeds local families on Thanksgiving. In conjunction with four other Staten Island Rotary Clubs, we have been able to assemble and deliver 35,000 meals, which is enough to feed over 140,000 people. Names of recipients are submitted by local organizations who aid and service needy families on the island. Nearly one hundred volunteers gather Friday night before Thanksgiving to assemble the food baskets which contain potatoes, yams, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and corn mix. The next morning the baskets are delivered along with the turkeys. This is just one example of how local business owners and Rotary members share a commitment to give back to the community.
