Mid Island Rotary Club

Community Service Scholarship Award

The Mid-Island Rotary Club of Staten Island is proud to present the Kathleen Kiernan Memorial Scholarship, an annual award that recognizes a graduating Staten Island high school student who has demonstrated a meaningful commitment to serving others. This scholarship is designed to honor those who have gone above and beyond in making a positive impact in their community and who plan to continue their education after graduation.

Eligible students must be residents of Staten Island and members of a graduating class who intend to pursue higher education, whether at a college or university, or through a public or private trade, technical, or vocational program. The scholarship places a strong emphasis on community service and contribution, valuing the time, care, and effort students have dedicated to improving the lives of others in their neighborhoods, schools, and across the borough.

Unlike traditional academic scholarships, this award is not primarily based on scholastic achievement. While applicants are expected to demonstrate the ability to benefit from continued education, the selection committee focuses most heavily on the quality, depth, and consistency of each student’s service including both organized volunteer work and independent efforts that have made a difference. Finalists are reviewed and interviewed by a committee of Rotarians to determine the most deserving recipient.

The Kathleen Kiernan Memorial Scholarship reflects Mid-Island Rotary’s deep commitment to service above self and to fostering the next generation of community-minded leaders. Through this award, the club seeks to not only recognize past contributions, but to encourage continued service and growth as students take their next steps beyond high school.

Applications must be completed in full and submitted by the stated deadline. For questions or additional information, applicants and schools are encouraged to reach out directly.
